ISLAMABAD -- Security forces in Pakistan's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province have killed a terrorist in a clash, shortly after he shot a policeman dead, a military statement said on Monday night.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Pakistani military, said the policeman was deployed on census security duty in Tank District of the province when the terrorist opened fire at him.

ALGIERS -- The European Union(EU) will develop renewable energy projects with Algeria, said an EU official here on Monday, stressing the key role of Algeria in fighting terrorism and maintaining security and stability in the region.

"Undoubtedly, Algeria and the EU share a good partnership in energy, as 90 percent of Algerian gas exports go to Europe, and we know we can count on Algeria because it has always been a reliable partner for Europe, especially during tough times," said Josep Borrell, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, in a statement following talks with the Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune. ADEN, Yemen -- At least four members of Yemen's government forces were killed in an attack launched by al-Qaida militants in the country's southeastern province of Shabwa on Tuesday, a military official told Xinhua.

"A group of gunmen of the Yemen-based al-Qaida branch launched an assault on Al-Safra point of the Fifth Brigade of Shabwa's local Defence troops, causing ferocious battle," the local military official said on condition of anonymity. (Yemen-Militants)

BLANTYRE, Malawi -- The death toll from Tropical Cyclone Freddy in Malawi reached 99 Monday evening with 85 deaths recorded in the commercial city of Blantyre alone, authorities have confirmed.

Commissioner for the Department of Disaster and Management Affairs (DoDMA), Charles Kalemba, confirmed the development at a press briefing held in Blantyre Monday evening, adding that thousands have also been displaced. (Malawi-Cyclone-Casualties)
