JERUSALEM, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Israel's national basketball team easily beat Romania 112-61 in a friendly in Tel Aviv on Tuesday evening.

It was Israel's fourth win in a row in preparation for the 2022 FIBA EuroBasket tournament, after beating NCAA side Auburn Tigers at home, and twice winning against Georgia in Tbilisi.

Israel played without Washington Wizards forward Deni Avdija, who was recovering from illness.

In front of 3,000 fans at Shlomo Group Arena in northern Tel Aviv, Israel led 20-14 at the end of the first quarter, and increased the lead to 34-19 in the 14th minute, mainly thanks to points by Partizan Belgrade point guard Yam Madar.

Three pointers by Romania's Rolland Torok prevented Israel from increasing the gap even more before half-time, when the score was 45-32.

Alba Berlin players Yovel Zoosman and Tamir Blatt inspired Israel to 64-37 by the 25th minute to secure the win.

Madar scored 17 points for Israel, while teammate Nimrod Levi added 13. Zoosman and Roman Sorkin contributed 12 points each. Emanuel Cate scored 14 for Romania.

The 2022 EuroBasket tournament will begin on September 1, with four six-team groups to be played in Tbilisi, Cologne, Milano and Prague. Israel will play in Group D in Prague along with the Czech Republic, Serbia, Poland, Finland and the Netherlands.

The knockout stage will begin on September 10, with all games to be played in Berlin.

Romania, who did not qualify for the upcoming tournament, will host Portugal on Thursday next week in the opening day of the 2025 EuroBasket pre-qualifiers.
