ALGIERS -- Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune late on Sunday expressed the willingness of his country to join the BRICS group.

In an interview aired on the state-run television ENTV, President Tebboune said that "there are economic conditions for joining the BRICS group, and I think Algeria meets a large proportion of these conditions." (Algeria-Join-BRICS)

ISTANBUL -- The first cargo ship carrying grain from Ukraine would anchor off Istanbul in the early hours of Wednesday Aug. 3 for a joint inspection as part of the Black Sea Grain Initiative, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced Monday.

The ministry said in a written message that the vessel will not enter any port and the inspections will be carried out at the anchorage point on the sea. (Türkiye-Ukraine-Grain Shipment)

BAGHDAD -- Thousands of Shiite parties' supporters held a protest in central Baghdad on Monday to counter an earlier demonstration by followers of prominent Shiite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr, amid calls for restraint to avoid bloodshed.

The followers of al-Sadr's opponents in the Coordination Framework, an umbrella group of Shiite parliamentary parties, tried to cross the suspension bridge on the southern side of the Green Zone in the afternoon to get closer to the parliament building, where al-Sadr's followers are holding an open sit-in protest. TEHRAN -- Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Monday that Iran is reviewing the new proposal by the EU coordinator for the revival of the 2015 nuclear deal, official IRNA news agency reported.

"We have announced our readiness so that at the appointed time, the delegations from Iran and the P4+1, with indirect involvement of the United States, can follow discussions in Vienna about the details for any agreement," the Iranian top diplomat said, referring to negotiations on reviving the nuclear pact, formally known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action.
