ACCRA, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- The Ghanaian government on Wednesday summoned a meeting with the Ghana Football Association to discuss the early exit of the Black Stars from the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon.

A statement issued here signed by Youth and Sports Minister Mustapha Ussif expressed disappointment at the performance of the Black Stars in the AFCON tournament.

"The entire country is extremely disappointed by the abysmal performance and early exit of the Black Stars from the ongoing 2021 African Cup of Nations in Cameroon, and the ministry of Youth and Sports shares in the nation's sentiment," the statement said.

The Black Stars of Ghana lost to Morocco and the Comoros Island and secured a 1-1 draw with Gabon at the group stage of the ongoing AFCON tournament.

Ghana secured a point to place fourth in Group C to exit from the tournament. The last time the country exited in a similar fashion was in 2006 in Egypt.

The Black Stars have, however, qualified for the World Cup's African play-offs whose draw is expected to be held in March.
