LISBON, Jan. 19 (Xinhua) -- Portugal on Wednesday recorded 52,549 new COVID-19 cases, the highest daily number since the beginning of the pandemic.
The country has had a total of 2,003,169 infections, according to the epidemiological bulletin of the Directorate-General for Health (DGS).
The authorities reported 33 coronavirus-related deaths in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative death toll to 19,413 since March 2020.
According to the bulletin, 1,959 people are hospitalized in Portugal with COVID-19, 153 of them in intensive care units.
By Wednesday, 28,825 patients had recovered. The total number of confirmed recoveries is now 1,627,279.
The DGS also reported on Wednesday that the booster dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has already been administered to 4,004,961 people, and 8.7 million people have already had complete primary immunization.
