LISBON, Jan. 18 (Xinhua) -- Portugal on Tuesday registered 43,729 new cases of COVID-19 in the previous 24 hours, the highest daily number since the beginning of the pandemic.
The total number of infections in Portugal has now reached 1,950,620.
According to the epidemiological bulletin released by the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), there were 46 more deaths from complications related to the virus.
This is the highest number since Feb. 26, 2021, and the total number of fatalities now stands at 19,380.
Meanwhile, a total of 1,955 people infected with COVID-19 are now hospitalized in Portugal, the highest number since March 2, 2021. Of these, 160 are in intensive care units.
However, in the last 24 hours more than 42,055 people have recovered from the disease, meaning that a total of 1,598,454 people have recovered since the beginning of the pandemic in the country.
