Ethiopia reports 248 new COVID-19 cases

ADDIS ABABA, Oct. 19 (Xinhua) -- Ethiopia registered 248 new COVID-19 cases in the past 24 hours, taking its nationwide tally to 359,495 as of Monday evening, the Health Ministry said.

Meanwhile, 21 new virus-related deaths and 295 more recoveries were reported, bringing the national death toll and recoveries to 6,238 and 329,257, respectively.

Ethiopia, Africa's second-most populous nation, has so far reported the largest number of COVID-19 cases in the East Africa region.

A total of 4,035,770 vaccine doses have been administered across the country amid a nationwide push for immunization, the ministry said.

Ethiopia is among the countries hardest hit by COVID-19 in Africa, following South Africa, Morocco and Tunisia.
