Africa's COVID-19 cases near 4.58 mln

ADDIS ABABA, May 4 (Xinhua) -- The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Africa has reached 4,578,902 as of Tuesday, the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) said.

The Africa CDC, a specialized healthcare agency of the 55-member African Union, said the death toll from the pandemic stands at 122,589, while 4,125,114 patients across the continent have recovered from the disease.

South Africa, Morocco, Tunisia, Ethiopia and Egypt are the countries with the highest number of cases, according to the Africa CDC.

South Africa has recorded 1,584,961 COVID-19 cases, and Morocco has registered 511,912 cases as of Tuesday.
