KUNDUZ, Afghanistan, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- Four militants were killed and five others including three insurgents were injuried as clashes erupted in the northern Kunduz province on Friday, deputy to district governor Qudratullah Safi said.
The fighting erupted in Arjal area of the restive Khan Abad district at around noon after the Taliban fighters were attempting to attack a security checkpoint and the pro-government militiamen returned fire killing four insurgents on the spot.
Five more fighters including three Taliban militants and two pro-government militiamen were injured, the official added.
Taliban outfit has yet to make comment on the offensive.
The clash takes place amid a two-day Loya Jirga, or the grand assembly of elders and chieftains, in Kabul to decide the release of 400 Taliban prisoners from government jails to pave the way for the intra-Afghan dialogue.
