LEGAZPI CITY, Sept 16 (PIA) - Six buildings of Bicol University (BU) were renamed in honor of its founding fathers and former presidents who made a significant contribution to its growth as one of the premiere universities in the country.

The presentation of the newly named buildings is one of the highlights of the month-long 50th Founding Anniversary celebration of BU.

BU President Dr. Arnulfo M. Mascarinas led the activity along with top officials, faculty members, non-teaching personnel and students of various BU offices, colleges and institutes.

The six renamed buildings include the BU General Administration and Support Services (GASS) building, BU College of Education Integrated Laboratory School (BUCEILS) High School Department's Gabaldon building, Multi-purpose Building, BU College of Education (BUCE) new building and Gabaldon building, and BU College of Social Sciences and Philosophy's (CSSP) Gabaldon building.

The GASS building, commonly known as the "White House" was renamed Ricardo A.

Arcilla Building, in memory of the university's first president. This building served as the hub of past and present BU administration.

BUCEILS Gabaldon Building is now Carlos R. Imperial Gabaldon building, in honor of former congressman "Papay" Imperial who was one of the key players in transforming BU into an established university through RA 5521.

The Multi-purpose building, the home of the BU College of Arts and Letters (BUCAL), College of Law (BUCL), Graduate School (BUGS), and the Language Center was renamed after Aquilino P. Bonto, the second BU president who was a prominent law professor and religious leader credited for restructuring the university towards more efficient administration.

The Gabaldon Building, occupied by BUCEILS Elementary, and the new BUCE Building were respectively named the Dominador R. Aytona Gabaldon Building and Patria G. Lorenzo Building in commemoration of BU Founding Father Congressman Aytona and former BU President Dr. Lorenzo.

Jose M. Alberto Gabaldon building is the new name of BU CSSP in Daraga campus, a dedicated public servant and one of the founding fathers of BU who teamed up with Cong. Aytona and Cong. Imperial in establishing BU as the first state university in the region. (SAA-PIA5/Albay)
