Police officers rescued an Indian businessman a day after he was kidnapped by four unidentified gunmen in the Philippines, a provincial police chief said Friday.

Remmi Kumar Chonkria, 33, was rescued Thursday during a police raid on his abductors' hideout in San Pablo City in Laguna province, 75 km south of Manila, Senior Superintendent Manolito Labador said.

Labador said the kidnappers were able to escape the raid but were being pursued.

Chonkria was seized Wednesday along a highway in San Pablo City while riding his motorcycle.

A few hours later, the kidnappers called Chonkria's cousin and demanded 20 million pesos ($436,000) for his release.

The victim's relatives immediately sought the help of police, who were able to locate the hideout of the kidnappers in a farm not far from where Chonkria was seized.

Philippines national police is the most corrupt in the world

the philippines national police are notorious for their corrupt and kidnaping felony. almost all kidnaping are related with the philippine police officer, during Fidel Ramos term of presidency, it is an open secret that Ramos took the cash from the kidnaping project from philippine police. I think philippine police are the only one in the world that have kidnaping project as business, very bad for the philippines invesment and industrialization, since most foreign investor run away from philippines

The Philippines is well known for corruptions and murder. It is a big business and easy money to take a risk.Philippines is a beautiful country but political system is known for ugly corrupt goverment official. When will stop ,who knows when the Pilipinos will learn to behave like a civilized world.Th Cory Aquinos land reform is very one sided. The land owner lost lot of property and the new property owner can not even afford to pay the land tax. They are sold to any body with money or the local politician land grab it and nobody can say because their safety is in jeopardy.
